Our Builder 20 Club Custom Home Building Gathering in Indianapolis: A Journey of Learning and Inspiration

When I joined my Builder 20 Club custom home building group through the National Association of Home Builders, I knew it would be an opportunity to learn and share insights with some of the most dedicated custom home builders across the country.

In early October, we gathered in the historic Bottleworks District of Indianapolis for a few days of conversation, collaboration and inspiration. Our host, Jeff Morgan of Green Square Design | Construct, set the tone with incredible hospitality.

The Bottleworks Hotel: A Unique Setting for Growth and Innovation

The Bottleworks District is known for its history and charm, and the Bottleworks Hotel provided the perfect setting for our Builder 20 Club event. From the Art Deco design to the vibrant atmosphere of the district, everything about the venue underscored the importance of innovation while staying true to craftsmanship. 

As I walked through the beautifully restored spaces, I couldn’t help but think of the parallels to our own custom home building work; how each home we build reflects both tradition and modernity, designed with precision and purpose.

Leadership and a Standout Project Tour

Epitomizing the spirit of the Builder 20 Club custom home building community, Jeff opened up his experience and knowledge to the group by offering a valuable look into his work and process. The highlight was a tour of one of Jeff’s latest projects, where we got to see his approach in action. 

Walking through his project with him as he explained each choice and decision was more than inspiring: It was a masterclass in dedication to quality and customer satisfaction.

The heart of Builder 20 Club lies in the honest conversations we have with our peers from across the country about our challenges and successes. This time, the discussions centered around the ups and downs we’ve all experienced in this unique industry, and everyone was encouraged to bring their most pressing issues and achievements to the table. 

In this trusted environment, we shared insights on running a successful custom home building business and managing client expectations – sometimes even when things go wrong.

One of the most valuable parts of our discussion was learning how other builders maintain open communication with clients, especially during challenging moments. It reinforced my belief that honesty and transparency are essential to building trust.
